Madre de Dios is the capital of bio-diversity of Peru and Canto Luz land is populated by a huge variety of animals, birds, butterflies and insects which live among myriads of trees, bushes and flowers.

Unfortunately, it is also becoming the best example of the destruction process happening all accross the Amazon. Madre de Dios is infamous for the ammount of illegal goldmining happening along its riverbanks and inland.

As our land had no previous owner it was left open for deforestation and exploitation. Our first goal in the effort to preserve the Eco-system is to establish clear presence and maintain vigilance against illegal mining, logging and hunting.

Through the system of paths that run on the perimeter of our land and inside, we schedule regular walks and marking of the territory.

We are taking active part in the initiative to preserve the river Piedras as the last mercury free river of the region by forming alliances with neighbourhood communities and other organizations of Madre de Dios region.

As our project grows we intend to implement other programs aimed at re-foresting the land, re-introducing various species to their natural habitat and research programs, as well as knowledge exchange between western practitioners and people of the forest through various volunteer and investigation programs.
